Wow, what a weekend of college football for the Atlanta area. The city and especially the Buckhead area was overrun with Florida and Alabama fans in town for the SEC title game at the Georgia Dome. While the game was not as close as expected, the event was a huge success for the city economically. Additionally, congrats to the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets for their victory in Tampa on Saturday. The Jackets are the ACC champs and will be playing in the Orange Bowl on January 5th.

The Buckhead Community Improvement District has named Jim Durrett as executive director. Durrett, who was raised in Buckhead and attended Westminster Schools, will bring vast experience to the Buckhead CID. Durrett spent the last ten years as executive director of the Livable Communities Coalition which is a group of numerous civic organizations focused on promoting responsible growth of the Atlanta area. Smart growth is focused on the development of urban communities that are “walkable and bikeable” and are well served by transit. Durrett practices what he preaches and currently commutes by bicycle and MARTA. We wish him luck in his endeavors in making Buckhead an even better place to live and work.
