This Date in Atlanta/Buckhead History

On this date in 1888 and just two weeks after Dr. John Pemberton died, Asa Candler purchased a one-third interest in the Coca-Cola Company. This made him the owner of two-thirds of the stock outright, plus he jointly owned the remaining third with Walker and Joseph Jacobs.  In 1891, Candler would buy out the Jacobs to become the sole owner.

On this date in 2004, former Atlanta mayor Bill Campbell was formally indicted for financial impropriety.
