You May Not Have Known – Atlanta Trivia

Most of you know about the beautiful Terminus office and condo tower development at the corner of Peachtree Road and Piedmont Road right in the heart of Buckhead.  But did you know that Terminus was the original name of our fair city?  In 1837 this area was chosen as the site of a railroad terminus to connect Chatanooga, Tennessee with Georgia.  The actual point of termination is now Five Points.  In 1843 Terminus was renamed Marthasville after the daughter of a former governor.  Then in 1845 the city name became Atlanta which is the feminine form of the word “Atlantic”.  So there you have it.
